Wonderful examples of building architecture can be found the world over, however, I truly believe that Europe has the overall best areas in the world to see these wonders. I will of course include other photos from different regions of the planet but the bulk of these images will be from the European countries. Click the green links for more information about each subject or photo.
Europe is one of the best overall regions of the world for building
architecture. This image is of the National Theater building in the city where
the Charles Bridge is located, yet it is
overshadowed by all of the other beautiful building and completely overlooked
by the tourists who arrive to this magnificent city. Photo: Prague , Czech Republic
The building you
are viewing has been featured in many movies and there are also a number of movies which have used this city as a film location. I always enjoy watching a
movie with this building in it as the film attempts to place the building in a
completely different country. The building is the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and is without a doubt one of the largest
Eastern Orthodox cathedrals in the world. It is stunning on the outside and
exquisite to view on the inside. Photo: Sofia ,

When taking a
photograph, lighting can play an important part. This temple is a good example
of what lighting can do. I had traveled to see this temple very late in the
afternoon and when I arrived the sky was very cloudy, no sunlight and I knew
that any photo I might take would not be what I wanted. I decided to leave and
as I was passing by this portion of the temple a miracle occurred. A small
opening in the clouds allowed a shaft of sun through to cast a very golden
color on the temple. For those of you who know this temple, it is pure white,
everywhere. Photo: Wat Rong Khun, Chiang Rai , Thailand
This innocent looking church, The Church of San Marcos, has more history than what appears at first glance. This is mainly due to the architect who designed the structure, had it constructed in sections which could be assembled on site then had it shipped to its location where you see now. The architect's name is one which carries a lot of fame though there is controversy about one of his constructions. He was responsible for many such structures, see this list. His name, Gustave Eiffel. Photo: Arica, Chile
When the sun is just right, late afternoon on a clear day in Autumn, it illuminates this building in a spectacular way giving a life and vibrancy to the structure which can be seen in this photography. This is the Town Hall building and is in the central square of this marvelous city. Of course it requires special light and atmospheric conditions for the camera to see wonderful colors of the weathered copper, roof tiles, brick and stucco. Photo: Wroclaw, Poland
This panoramic image is taken in one of my favorite cities, especially during the Autumn season. The building on the right is the Royal Castle and is located at the entrance of the old town center which is pictured in the left of this image. Photo: Warsaw, Poland
This is a beautiful Cathedral which is extremely difficult to photograph due to the nature of its surroundings and most images are taken from ground levels which do not show a view from this perspective. The city and region in which this Cathedral is located is very prosperous and not to be missed if you are traveling this region of the world. The building is known as the New Cathedral of Cuenca as the old Cathedral was too small to serve its purpose. The official name is Cathedral Metropolitana de la Inmaculada ConcepciĆ³n. If you clicked the link associated with the earlier image you
would have been taken to a web site which had some nice images of the temple
itself. Being a photographer, I try for different perspective. At the entrance to
the temple there are crystals on either side, some are pure black but the
others are perfectly clear. These crystal spheres are not very large, maybe 3
inches in diameter at the most. The image you now see is a photograph of
the front of the temple showing the bridge which the tourists must cross over
to get inside the temple. At the bottom of the image in the sphere are a few of
the hands which the artists included in his overall design for the temple. The
actual image has been rotated 180 degrees to give the correct visual
perspective. Photo: Wat Rong Khun, Chiang Mai , Thailand
The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist is a Gothic structure with Neo-Gothic additions. It is a marvelous structure and is one of the places that if you ever find yourself in this city, it is a must see. The night photo here does not give the viewer the stunning details of seeing the Cathedral and its additions during the day hours. Photo: Wroclaw, Poland
This is the Church of Saint Peter Claver or Iglesia de San Pedro Claver as it is know in the Spanish language. It was dedicated to this priest who did works with the incoming slaves ships to this region of the world. Photo: Cartagena, Colombia
This wonderful Orthodox church is located in a very beautiful lake side city. This area is a very popular tourist location for the locals of this country as well as travelers from other parts of the world. This is The Church of St. John at Kaneo and it is unknown exactly when it was constructed. Photo: Lake Ohrid, Ohrid, Republic of Macedonia
This marvelous structure is The Holy Trinity Column and was constructed between 1716 and completed around 1754. The city in which this column is located is considered or called Little Prague due to its nature of beautiful constructions and architecture in the city itself. During brief periods of the day when the sun is at its best angle in the sky, the normal brownish coloration of the stone work is illuminated to produce a wonderful golden tone as shown in this image. This is a multiple image panorama which is difficult to appreciate on the computer monitor unless you are able to see the actual image as this one has been reduced in size.
