This post is just a simple advisory for those who come to Bangkok and ride the MRT which is their very new and extremely well run underground subway system.
If your age is 60 years or older you qualify for what is called an "elder" discount ticket which is a greatly reduced fare.
All you need to do when purchasing your ticket is go to the booth, tell them the stop which you wish to go and say "elder" and you will receive the discounted price.
I use this system all the time and according to others I do not look my age yet I have never been challenged about it.
I realize that for some this is not too important but for those travelers who are watching their budget and you are riding the MRT a lot or just some, it never hurts to know about another way to save money.
One final note, there is no such discount scheme when riding the BTS in Bangkok, only the MRT.
