I do a lot of flying and use multiple web sites for this including the major search engines such as Expedia, Orbitz and many others. Many travels like to use SkyScanner which I have also used and like most I use as many sites for the best prices.
The main problem I always encounter using most of these web sites is the way which you are allowed to search for flights. If I am attempting to depart from point A arriving at point B, I will do what most people do and begin my search for flights from and to these points.
However, if I do not like what I see then I might try a search that would take me through a different route or date but eventually to my destination.
This becomes complicated because it requires for the use of multiple browser windows to be open at the same time which can sometimes be a bit difficult to handle.
I would like to introduce one web search engine which solves this problem of multiple browser windows.
This web site was started about two years ago and is little known but it is a fantastic way to search for flights and can make the process very easy if you are doing the kind of searches where you are looking at many different options for a flight such as alternate dates and a lot more.
The name is Hipmunk. Open this link to go to their official web site.
When you open the page you will see the initial departure, arrival, date page for your search. Input your information and the site begins its search. A new page will load. At the top of the page you will see on the left side their logo and on the same line you will see a tab which has the search you requested. Continue looking to the right on the same line and you will also see a tab which says "New Search".
Here is where Hipmunk is different from all the other search engines. Your first search will give the results and if you wish to alter the search just click the "Edit Search" which is in blue and a new window will open on the same page and you will see the current search you requested but now you can do a modification of this search, either changing the dates, departure or arrival points and the search engine will do its search now based on the new input and it will again open a window and show the results of the new search.
Hipmunk allows you to do this same operation many times and it keeps the search results for each search you make so you can select the search tabs as needed to review the results of each flight you are looking at.
This is very helpful if you are wanting to look at different departure dates or try different routes.
Of course, like everything else, especially when booking a flight, no matter which search engine you use, you will get different results based on the way that search engine works with the airlines.
Give Hipmunk a try, once you become adjusted with using it you will like the format even though you may in the end use another web site to actually book your flight ticket.
