Opportunities on the High Seas

For those of you who may wish to travel the world on the oceans there are a number of resources to locate various styles and type of sailing opportunities from large cruise ships to individual sail boats. Below is a short list of some of the better web sites for viewing and contacting these opportunities. In some cases there will be professional requirements, you may be asked to pay a small amount on a daily basis or you may be able to find an opportunity where there is no expense at all.

This is not for every one, however, if you are open to experiencing new adventures then take a look at these web sites and see what is available to sail the high seas.

Crew Seekers International. This web site is a very good resource for locating sailing opportunities from professional crew work to non experienced levels of opportunities.

Sailing Networks. This web is another good resource concentrating mostly on sailing vessels.

FindaCrew. Here is another good site, but like others, you must pay a membership fee to see the listings.

The Float Plan. This web site is full of information and listings but the format is a bit more difficult to navigate but it has very interesting information. When viewing the crew wanted posts look for the date of the posting at the end which gives you an idea of how recent the post was made.

DockWalk. This is a web site for careers on super yachts. Check it out.

As usual with things such as this, you must do your homework. Make sure you ask questions about experience requirements, if you must make financial contributions, sleep berths, food, etc but the most important question will be the capabilities and experience level(s) of the captain in the case of sailing boats. These opportunities can be fun experiences or a nightmare depending on you, the captains experience levels in the case of sailing vessels and how prepared you are to step out of the box.
