Visa for Burma in Bangkok

Obtaining a Visa to Burma or Myanmar in Bangkok is easy but some may think travel to Burma (Myanmar) is difficult but it is quite simple if you have someone who has done this before and can give you advice in advance.

However, one thing you as the reader must always take into account when reading any blog, thread or web site is that things change.  It may be an address, costs, times, routes or other details which make information such as this difficult at best to keep up to date or accurate.

As of this writing which was 25th September, 2011 here is some useful information for traveling from Bangkok to Burma for an extended period to visit the entire country which does not include going to Chang Mai or other Thailand cities then into Burma.

First the location of the Myanmar Consulate office in Bangkok is 132 North Sathron Road.

This is at the corner of Sathron Road and Pan, however, I could not see any street maker.
This is the visa section and is a short walk from the Surasek BTS stop.
Hours of operation are from 9:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 16:00 Monday through Friday.
Visas are picked up in the afternoon.
Visa processing time for a standard tourist visa is 2 business days.
The current cost for a standard tourist visa is 810 Thai Baht.
Visa processing can be expedited for 450 Thai Baht and will be processed in one business day.

Requirements for the visa application are one passport size photo, one photo copy of the picture page of your passport and of course the completed application.

One item when making application is the occupation line. No matter what you do at the present time, do not write anything about journalism or being a writer as this may cause a problem when the application is being processed due to the government issues with the press or news reporting organizations.

In checking the VOA status when arriving in Myanmar, this has been suspended until a later date and was a very limited pilot program with only one airline.

The best airline to fly is AirAsia and it is best to book as far in advance as is possible to secure the lowest fares the only issue is that AirAsia only has flights to Rangon with return to Bangkok.
